Halloween- Analysis

The opening of Halloween is very well shot and from it i got ideas for my own title sequence.
The Sequence begins with a point of view shot of someone walking to the front door door of a house. When approaching close to the door there is glimpses of people in the house, therefore this is setting the opening up to make you wonder who is watching these people and what is going to happen in the next scenes. The person then begins to go round the side of the house and when looking through this point of view, the audience see a pumkin through the mise en scene indicating to the audience it is Halloween (festive time). This also because of this festive time it shows that nearly all of horror films happen at a festive time. This person goes back to the front of the house and looks at the window, when the person looks they see the light goes out, and this is an indication that it is time to make a move. At this point the music has a sudden classing notes to make the audience jump and from this it picks up pace whilt this person is trying to get in to the house. A piano accompanying the other sounds create suspense for the audience, the piano is like the signature of this person as whenever something is going to happen then the piano will begin. Once getting in the person turns the light on, the person then grabs a knife from a draw and with this shot we see the first sight of this someones body therefore it builds suspence for the audience, it also creates a sense of worry and anxiety as grabbing a knife it indicates that there is going to be a death. the person begins to walk out of the brightly lit kitchen into a dark lit room indicating something is going to happen as he is going away from the nice safe lit place of the kitchen. These point of views through this persons eyes is showing us the setting where it is going to take place therefore when looking round the house, it is not only for the person to look but also to show the audience. The person then begins to go up the stairs but sees one of the teens,he then peeks round the corner and this indicating to the audience he should'nt be there and does not want to be seen creating suspense. The Boy goes down the stairs and leaves the Girl in the house alone. This gives indication to the audience that this person who is still unseen looking around the person then sees a mask and puts it on , this creating suspence that no one will know who is is because his face is hidden and also creates great mise on scene as we see the mask being worn through the persons point of view. looking for the girl, the person approches ands then begins to stab her frequently showing the weapon the person uses. At this point the music is very strong and with a strong bass it emphasises the mise en scene. It also is as much important aswell as the mise en scene to create the tension build suspense and creatre a sense of worry into the audience and preparing them for more to come into the film itself. With the music still being very strong the person or the killer now begins to leave the house very hastily before being caught, until he walks outside and two people comfront him and take off his mask, at this moment it creates confusion for the audience as we know the character who is the killers name, where he lives, that he is very ypoung and wondering why he would do this. This indicates that this opening gives the audience only a few but enough infomation and with all these questions building within all of the audience wondering what is going to happen giving a platform for the audience to want to watch it again to understand more or watching the whole film. overall i believe this opening is great opening and well directed, also the mise en scene with the music creates all of the suspense, tension and without one another it would not be as sucessful as it has turned out.
